Born in New Orleans, Louisiana, Cody Riess is an award-winning contemporary artist with a broad range of work. Her pieces have been featured in MTV Cribs, Veranda, Southern Accents and Traditional Home. Her work has exhibited in Los Angeles, Hilton Head, Atlanta, New York, High Point, Dallas, Houston, Austin and New Orleans - including the Danna Center at Loyola University.

Riess is an intuitive artist who paints with tremendous intensity, energy and expression. Having spent extensive time in Europe, Asia and South America, her paintings evolve from personal history, poetry, music and stories. She considers her abstracts a kind of excavation, a pealing back of history and space...where large blocks of color may be layered to capture or reflect light, or a moody palate is employed where the under-painting appears to be attempting to break through a fleeting glimpse of a secret world beneath. Every stroke, every line, is intended to leave a record of its journey and the medium used. Her pieces are instinctive and have a sense of urgency but maintain integrity, intent. Riess says she strives for the viewer to see the movement in the stillness of a piece. Humor and play aren't lost in her work....
